Durban and Coastal Mental Health

Since 1940

Making A Difference Since 1940 – Before South Africa Was a Republic

Founded in 1940, Durban & Coastal Mental Health has been part of our community’s story for more than 80 years, long before South Africa became a republic. Every day, we support children, adults, and families through programs that nurture, rehabilitate, and reintegrate.

From our earliest days, we have worked alongside communities facing real challenges — providing care, skills training, and opportunities for independence. Our mission has always been to restore dignity, build resilience, and create safe spaces where every person has the chance to thrive.

How We Help

Care, Dignity, Daily Support

These are the programmes that keep people safe, supported and seen — in our homes, in our day care centres, in protective workshops, and in the community.

💬

Social Work Programme

Counselling, crisis support, and family guidance. We meet people where they are and help them navigate what comes next.

🌼

Day Care Programme

Daily care, stimulation, meals and transport for children and young adults with profound intellectual and physical disabilities.

🏠

Residential Care

24/7 care in a supported home environment. Dignity, safety and community for people who cannot live on their own.

🛠

Protective Workshops

Structured skills training and meaningful work. Pride, purpose and a way to participate — even when formal work isn’t possible.
