SOCIAL WORK SERVICES
Our Social Work Programme is dedicated to promoting, enhancing and improving the health and wellbeing of individuals, families and communities impacted by mental health issues. Our counselling and supportive services reach over 50,000 beneficiaries.
Mental health in South Africa is increasingly coming under the spotlight as more and more individuals and communities are reaching out for support. At Durban and Coastal Mental Health, we are being called on to support those struggling under the burden of poverty, stressful and traumatic life experiences, and the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS.
We are conscious of and responding to this growing need for mental health support through a number of service delivery programmes. We reach out to disadvantaged communities, persons with psychiatric disability and intellectual disability, and to those struggling to manage their stress levels or recover from traumatic events in their lives, such as rape and suicide.
Social Work Services are currently rendered in the following districts:
- Durban and surrounding areas
- Chatsworth
- KwaDukuza
- KwaMashu
- Maphumulo
- Mpumalanga, Hammarsdale
- Ndwedwe
- Phoenix

Rural outreach
We work with communities in the remote rural areas of KwaZulu-Natal such as Umbumbulu, Ndwedwe, Bhamshela, Mandeni and Maphumulo. Our Rural Outreach Programmes include the prevention and early identification of mental disability, and the integration of persons with mental disability into the community.
