MENTAL HEALTH PROMOTION
SOCIAL WORK PROGRAMME
Promoting mental health and the prevention of psychiatric illness are priorities for Durban and Coastal Mental Health.
Public education programmes promote awareness of mental health issues, encourage early diagnosis and management of psychiatric illness, reduce stigma associated with psychiatric and emotional disorders, and advocate for the rights of people with mental disabilities.
Our Mental Health Awareness and Promotion Programmes also empower people to cope with different life stresses, depression and anxiety through workshops, life skills and training.
We participate annually in national campaigns including:
- Intellectual Disability Awareness Month in March
- Psychiatric Disability Awareness Month in July
- World Mental Health Awareness Month in October
We also support campaigns such as International Day of Disabled Persons, Sixteen Days of Activism and World Aids Day.
