Walter Peterson, Chairman
The members of Durban and Coastal Mental Health’s Governing Board and I have been witness to heartening zest, commitment and loyalty in the delivery of bench-marked mental health services to almost 40,000 persons with psychiatric illness and intellectual disability, and their families, in the Durban and Coastal belt of KwaZulu-Natal.
The words “quality”, “excellence”, “professionalism”, “growth”, “transformation”, “reaching out”, “inclusive”, “receptive”, “strategic”, “sustainability”, “partnerships” and “accountability” are lived values that underpin this great organisation’s work. For any organisation, let alone a non-profit organisation, this is truly a remarkable achievement.
Lest my views are considered expressions of insider bias, let me hasten to inform you that the prestigious awards received in the past few years bear ample testimony to DCMH’s excellence that I have exuded about.
The Governing Board has been impressed by Durban and Coastal Mental Health’s enthusiasm to seek new opportunities in respect of outreach and nature of services.
I extend my sincere congratulations to our Executive Director, Ms Gita Harie, and her management and operational staff, for elevating Durban and Coastal Mental Health to this level with a promise to soar even higher. The thousands of beneficiaries of your excellence are indeed blessed.
