SOCIAL WORK SERVICES
"Mental Health Care Users and Social Workers from Phoenix took to the streets in the month of March to advocate for the promotion of Human Rights for persons with intellectual disabilities in relation to access to basic services such as housing, employment as well ensuring increased availability of community based facilities for adult persons with intellectual disability.
The Slogan for the day was “Human Rights for All”.
The outcome of the March was to ensure that the Human Rights of Persons with intellectual disability upheld."

Our Social Work Programme is dedicated to promoting, enhancing and improving the health and wellbeing of individuals, families and communities impacted by mental health issues. Our counselling and supportive services reach over 40,000 beneficiaries.
Mental health in South Africa is increasingly coming under the spotlight as more and more individuals and communities are reaching out for support. At Durban and Coastal Mental Health, we are being called on to support those struggling under the burden of poverty, stressful and traumatic life experiences, and the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS.
We are conscious of and responding to this growing need for mental health support through a number of service delivery programmes. We reach out to disadvantaged communities, persons with psychiatric disability and intellectual disability, and to those struggling to manage their stress levels or recover from traumatic events in their lives, such as rape and suicide.
Social Work Services are currently rendered in the following districts:

Rural outreach
We work with communities in the remote rural areas of KwaZulu-Natal such as Umbumbulu, Ndwedwe and Maphumulo. Our Rural Outreach Programmes include the prevention and early identification of mental disability, and the integration of persons with mental disability into the community.
